Chingford Golf Course is a public golf course dating back to 1888. The course has a reputation for being in excellent condition and fantastic value for money. Booking is advisable and tee times can be reserved by calling 020 8529 5708. The course is set within Epping Forest and as such trees are plentiful. Fantastic views across London from the top end of the course. A little gem.

I've spent the best part of my childhood and adult life thinking about playing this course and never actually going ahead and playing it, however at last I've finally played it 32 years of age. What a joy, it didn't disappoint for public course situated on the fringe of Epping forest. The antiquity of the venue is apparent throughout as it plays pretty short in modern day terms yet every hole is an adventure to be cherished. The wait to play this course was worthwhile and we got straight on to the first tee with no wait and as a three ball we got round in under 4 hours. The wearing of something red is a novel and well respected tradition that makes playing this course even more fun and to think royalty used to frequent this area and have a nearby hunting lodge named after queen Elizabeth you get a sense of the history that one might liken to playing the old course at St.Andrews. The green fee is fair and although some of the greens are a little worn it's easily counteracted by the holes that gently swerve, dip and climb among the Epping Forest backdrop. I would play here again and again and if you are considering golf in the London area make this one of your must play courses, just remember to wear something red, although even if you do forget their well stocked pro shop will be able to provide a jersey, shirt or strides to suit. If you forgot the cash to buy clothes they even hire tops to get you out of trouble.

Visitors welcome any time, seven days a week-an article of red clothing must be worn at all times.
